Commerce, Oakland County
A charter township of lakes, parks, and orchards in western Oakland County, where all three Walled Lake high schools sit and new construction keeps the market young.
Commerce Charter Township is the lake country of western Oakland County: roughly 43,100 residents at the 2020 census and a chain of water that includes Union Lake, Walled Lake, and Wolverine Lake, some of the region's most popular boating lakes. Despite the growth, much of the township still feels like the orchard country it was a generation ago.
The public land is a headline. Proud Lake Recreation Area, about 3,000 acres along the Huron River, offers camping, trails, and river access; Dodge Park No. 5 adds 106 acres of local park; and Long Family Orchard, Farm & Cider Mill is a real working farm that draws families every fall. The old Commerce Drive-In sign still stands at Richardson and Union Lake Roads, and the West Oakland Railroad Museum keeps the town's rail history.
The market runs younger and newer than the county's older suburbs. Recent trackers put median sold prices around $435,000 to $458,000 in 2025-26, with Zillow's average home value nearer $387,000 and lakefront well above either number. First-time buyers find the attached product, while move-up families and new construction buyers drive the middle of the market.
Raquel's own story started in this township: she was working at Verizon Wireless in Commerce and West Bloomfield when other agents told her to get her license. She knows the streets, the schools, and the builders, and she treats Commerce listings with the inside knowledge that comes from having worked the town before she ever sold homes in it.
